Nora Adwan was born in London in 1983 She now lives and works in Berlin producing intricate lens based media, performance and installation pieces. Her work has both impact and is complex in content. It questions the security of the familiar and the potential menace of normal objects and situations.
Drawing inspiration from the materials she chooses to add interpretation to her work, Nora subverts and constructs the familiar with tools such as inanimate objects and food. Allowing her work to both dislodge audience instinct and signify human emotion.
A constant theme is that of power in its many forms. The body of her work on communication is concerned with the subtle conflicts and struggles of social interaction. Increasingly Nora has moved further into installation allowing a higher level of audience interpretation of her work and it’s environment, essentially reducing the distance between art and audience.
